Yuji Naka wants to work on Dreamcast 2

Yuji Naka may be more known as one of the minds behind the original Sonic the Hedgehog, but the former Sonic Team head has also had a hand in the development of the Sega Dreamcast. In an interview with CVG, the current Prope boss waxes ecstatic about the possibility of working on a follow-up to the Sega home console.

"I'm hoping to work on Dreamcast 2", Naka told CVG. "Of course Dreamcast was my baby back at Sega and I want to carry on making good games for the European market and one day I'm hoping it gives me the opportunity to work on Dreamcast 2.

"I do miss those old days when I was heavily involved in hardware making at Sega. I was involved in most of the consoles and controllers that Sega came up with."

Naka also expressed enthusiasm at collaborating with any of the big three platform holders on any kind of hardware development, even if it's not the actual Dreamcast successor.

"If I have the opportunity in the future I want to be involved again with hardware making," he said. "It would be ideal if I could become some sort of advisor working with the platform makers in future. I think if I can work really well with the platform makers then it's good for everyone, because I can then come up with totally new games."

Naka is currently promoting Prope's Wii upcoming game, Ivy the Kiwi?.

  5. I wish there would be a new Sega machine. They pretty much pioneered another of what's common of gaming systems these days.

  13. Perhaps one of the greatest consoles every created.

I would buy the Dreamcast 2 without hesitation or question even if it were the shittiest console ever conceived just because the first Dreamcast was THAT good.

  14. I really doubt a DC2 will ever happen. So this is really cruel. Shame on you Yuji Naka, for building up hopes.
